The Facebook Season 2020

Starting June 2020

The Richings Players, like many other amateur dramatic societies across the UK have had to postpone or cancel current or future productions due to the Coronavirus, social distancing and restrictions on public gatherings.

As many of you are already aware, we had to postpone our intended June production of Emlyn Williams’ "Night Must Fall" directed by Liam Tebbit and it’s looking increasingly likely that we won’t be able to put on our traditional October production or possible, our January pantomime.

However, as one curtain falls, another one rises and we’re quite excited to say the least.

Starting at the end of June, The Richings Players will be embarking on “The Facebook Season”. Showcasing what we do best - acting…virtually of course, with a series of one-act plays performed and recorded by our members through the video communications platform Zoom and edited to be premiered on Facebook. They will be free to watch and we feel this is a great way to continue what we have been doing for over 90 years; entertaining the Ivers.

Chairman Evelyn Stafford-Allen says;

“When the idea of virtual theatre was floated at one of our committee meetings, I thought it was fantastic and I’m so excited about the next few months of seeing what our members will do! We’re of course sad that we aren’t able to rehearse together and perform for our wonderful audiences, but sometimes, innovative and new ideas are what’s needed and these certainly do just that!”

On hearing about these virtual plays, our NODA Representative Judith Watsham commented;

"I think this is a brilliant idea and one which most groups can be inspired by. An excellent way of keeping members and loyal audiences fully engaged. I am really looking forward to Zooming in at the end June and hopefully regularly thereafter until we can get back to really enjoying our love for all things amdram, together."

Come join us for The Crying Dame on 27th June 2020.
